HELPFUL HOMESCHOOL TIPS

From the Desk of the Principal:

I would like to take this opportunity to speak blessings over your home school journey. I pray that God will bless your student with the ability to learn and to enjoy another year with you. May God anoint your teaching, making everyday new and that you will see the fruits of your labor.

I remember, I would get so excited over a new year because I knew it was a fresh start, putting all my mistakes and disappointments behind me, and looking forward to seeing what the new year would bring.

As I look back on my own home school journey, I realized that I had 18 years with my two children and I would not trade one day of that time for anything. Such precious memories! Build your own memories as you teach this year.

So with this being said, I would like to share some helpful tips with you that I learned along my home school journey.

Relax:

»
Relax. You're a Mom. You will do fine. Actually, Dads do pretty well too.

»
Have a plan. Write out your reasons for homeschooling and educational goals for each subject.

»
Choose a place in your home to do school.

»
Be organized and prepared each day. If your students see you struggling to find their school work then your day is pretty much done. And yes, I know this by experience!

»
Don't get distracted by what someone else is doing.

»
Don't compare yourself to others, you will always feel like you're not doing enough.

»
Don't compare your kids to others. Trust yourself to know your kids and how they learn. Stay true to your own family.

»
Always remember "our children are indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made."

»
Attend a homeschool convention or a curriculum fair. Listen to guest speakers on the subjects that interest you. Take time at curriculum fairs to look at the books and ask questions.

»
Give it a year, then take some time to reflect on what you could change to make it even better.

»
And last but certainly not least: ENJOY YOUR KIDS. Don't forget to have fun while teaching. Go on field trips, play sports, build a tree house. Use your imagination and be creative.

»
It is true what you've heard, kids really do grow up fast. You will miss this special time with them if you are not careful.
